For new construction or re-modeling we recommend for wood floors to be installed after windows and doors are installed and before interior painting.
It’s so important for our clients to know what to expect in the process of installing a new floor or sanding and refinishing an older floor. We endeavor to generate a partnership between the owner, the installers, the designers, architects and the contractors involved in your project.
When we work together, we can produce a spectacular, custom floor. The one that you will be proud to show off for years to come! We can design floors with unique borders, medallions, parquet or other custom applications or insets.
Here are some of the steps in the process:
- When we arrive, the first thing we do is to protect your home from potential dust infiltration. We tarp and tape with blue tape that is easily removable, and should not damage walls or furniture.
- On a sand and refinish job, the first job is to sand.
- Then we vacuum and mop up the dust.
- Next we apply stain and coatings. We screen, vacuum and mop again between coats.
- Most times, drying time is overnight between coats.
- When we leave every day, we clean the job site.
- On a new installation, leveling the floor is the first priority.
- Sometimes a leveling operation is required.
- In situations where moisture is an issue, a membrane will be applied as a moisture barrier.
- We work from a center line to align the flooring from a particular vantage in the room or home.
- An owner always supervises each and every installation.
- The racking process requires that flooring blend pleasingly from piece to piece, without drastic changes in tone and color. Many installers just grab the next piece out of the box without even looking to see how it blends in that area of the room! Not us!
- When the flooring job is complete, there are often other contractors waiting to complete their part of a remodel or installation. Then we install a rosin paper to protect your flooring from the continued construction process.
